Mike D’Antoni will coach Stephen Curry’s team for the Western All-Stars. Recently, Houston’s head coach was announced to be the coach and Houston fans rejoiced. Steve Kerr could not be eligible due to him coaching the previous year’s game. This left the next man up is the one and only Mike D’Antoni. Since the Rockets are currently second in the Eastern conference, D’Antoni only needed to get 1 more win or a Spurs loss on Friday. The Spurs ended up losing on Friday, so it was almost a lock until the NBA announced it a day later.
Mike will coach “Team Curry” and that includes James Harden. Steph was excited when D’Antoni came on board and even built his roster around his coaching style (Curry knew D’Antoni would be the coach because of how close he is to the Warriors on the standings). Curry says he built a shooters team to run the fast gunned D’Antoni offense. We will get to see this team play on Sunday, February 18th against “Team LeBron”. Mike D'Antoni's team will consist of Stephen Curry, James Harden, DeMar DeRozan, Giannis Antetokounmpo and Joel Embiid. The bench unit will consist of Jimmy Butler, Karl-Anthony Towns, Klay Thompson, Al Horford, Damian Lillard, Kyle Lowry and Draymond Green. This team sure is an offensive bunch, as team defense is not needed in the All-Star Game.
Fans will get to watch the teams go head t head on Sunday night, February 18th in Los Angeles. Unfortunately, this year is not open to the public, so fans will have to watch from home.
