The Houston Texans first round picks has been heavily praised all summer by fans and coaches around the league. Many love Watsons approach to the game, and how he uses his mobility to his advantage. One of the greatest QB’s to ever do it, Tom Brad, had high praise for the rookie after the joint practice early Wednesday morning. “Watching him play, he has a great future. He has all the ability and it was great to meet him” Brady said Wednesday morning (CBS Sports).
Brady’s comments are true, considering Watson had a great run at Clemson in which he won a BCS championship against the Alabama Crimson Tide. Watson is a very mobile QB, and did get it done with his legs for the Tigers. Watson had 21 carries for 43 yards and 1 touchdown in the BCS game where he beat the Crimson Tide 35-31. Watson has the ability to become a mobile threat, and to get praise from the best quarterback in the league helps out a lot too. Hopefully, Watson can translate his game to the pros, and become the missing piece the Texans have been searching for since the Matt Shaub era. If the Texans can finally find the stability they need, the team is poised for success. The team has been setup for whoever starts at quarterback to have all the weapons they need. They would just need to be able to run an offense for Bill O’Brien. Savage and Watson appear to be the two QB’s that can finally run this offense.
For the Texans, they are all in on Watson. His practice today showed an elite quarterback his skillset, which was impressive to Brady. The Texans have already been impressed and so have the fans. It might just be a matter of time before Watson makes that one practice or pre-season play that just pushes him to become the starter. Until then, Tom Savage is going to run the team.
Hopefully, we can find out more about the preseason QB battle when the Texans and Patriots play this Saturday at 7 pm.
