Yes Houston, Tom Savage SHOULD Be the Starting QB

Posted by Devon Bennett on

We all knew Texans fans would love to have their starting QB be the rookie they jumped up on in the draft, but frankly Watson is not ready.

Watson has shown flashes of promise, but hasn’t delivered since his week 1 pre-season game. Watson has shown he is able to move on the ground with his legs, but his passing ability isn’t fully there. Watson started off great week 1 with 15/25 passing for 179 yards with 0 touchdowns and interceptions. Savage that week finished 9/11 with 69 yards. Watson looked great throwing this week, and even running. The problem is seeing Watson go against this week’s Patriots second team, and not performing well. Watson finished only 3/10 with 102 yards, 60 coming off 1 dump pass to Foreman. His performance this week was not the best to say the least. Bill O’Brien is right Houston. Tom Savage is indeed the starting QB for week 1. Does this mean he is there all season? No. Savage is ready to start week 1 and has proven in the pre-season that he is. Watson still has the ability to play in week 5 if Savage falls apart, but that is highly unlikely from what we have seen from Savage. Watson is a good rookie, but he is not ready.

Houston, Bill O’Brien knows what he is talking about when he says Savage should be the week 1 starter. If you have seen what I have seen, or even seen what Twitter has seen, you would agree as well. Watson is special, but he isn’t fully there and doesn’t need to be rushed to put into the starting spot. I do believe Watson will eventually become the starting QB, but not to Savage playing poorly. Savage has proven he should be the starting QB, and it’s all in the tape.

Houston plays the Cowboys this Saturday. Watch Watson and Savage go at it again, with a more in depth analysis on their play this weekend.
